WHAT IT IS
Thames & Kosmos’ Dusty – Robot Vacuum Cleaner is a friendly robot that tidies up kids’ desks by picking up crumbs, dust bunnies, and more! Kids ages 8 and up can use the step-by-step instructions found in the manual to build Dusty from 132 pieces. The guide also explains the primary engineering concepts behind real robotic vacuum cleaners, making building experience both fun and educational.
Dusty features two modes: Mode 1 (Wander Mode) and Mode 2 (Edge Mode). In Wander Mode, Dusty moves freely across the desk and, with the help of mechanical sensors, detects obstacles and changes direction, preventing any falls. In Edge Mode, Dusty uses its probe arm to trace along the edges of surfaces, reaching into all corners. As Dusty works, kids can watch its face go from happy to confused whenever it encounters something in its path, adding a playful touch to every adventure.

WHY WE LOVE IT
Dusty is a true functional robot and a desk cleaner — it doesn’t take up much space, and kids will appreciate the extra help keeping their workspaces clean. As they build the new companion, kids will learn about crucial STEM subjects and improve their fine motor skills.
Transparent pieces are included so kids can watch Dusty’s inner mechanisms, including the motors and gears in action, and interact with what they learned during construction. IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW
Parental assistance may be needed for 8-year-olds attempting to build, while kids over 12 are more likely to be able to handle building independently. The building process also requires additional tools, like a small screwdriver, scissors, a nail file, paper towels, a cup, and a cotton swab. Once dust accumulates in Dusty’s pan, remove it and clean the filter with a soft brush. Dusty is not made for outdoor use, and should not be left unattended to avoid accidental damage. Dusty requires 4 AAA batteries.
