Released in 2023 as part of the now‑concluded Tyrannosaur Series, the Creative Beast Studio Dilong paradoxus stands out as the only 1/6‑scale figure in the entire line. Known from Early Cretaceous deposits in eastern China, Dilong represents the earliest definitive evidence of feathers in tyrannosaurs, making its inclusion in the series both scientifically meaningful and historically appropriate.

Coloration and Paintwork
The most immediately striking feature of this figure is its coloration. Inspired by the golden pheasant, the palette is bold yet cohesive, blending yellows, blues, browns, and deep reds with impressive precision. Despite its vibrancy, the figure maintains a naturalistic and scientifically plausible appearance—especially when one considers that the real golden pheasant is even more vivid than many expect from a wild species. Among my collection, nothing else looks quite like this, and it brings a refreshing visual diversity to any display.

Sculpt and Proportions
The sculpt is exceptionally faithful to known skeletal material. The proportions—from the slender legs to the arm posture and skull shape—adhere closely to current scientific understanding. The eyes are lifelike, the teeth are cleanly sculpted, and the textures of the proto‑feathers and scutes are finely executed. The tail is appropriately long, and the feet are correctly sized, avoiding the oversized “support feet” seen in some other brands.

Articulation
Articulation is strong overall, allowing for a wide range of anatomically plausible poses. The bendable tail is a highlight; curling it upward not only showcases the decorative proto‑feather fan but also reminds me of a behavior my bearded dragon displays when he’s content and exploring. Neck articulation is good side‑to‑side, though the downward range is more limited than I would prefer. The figure can stand without the included base, but balancing it requires care, and the stand is recommended for long‑term display.
Accessories
Accessories included are a nicely painted ground platform and poseable stand. The inclusion of alternative feet for those who may want to display it in specific running poses. And a collector card.

Size
At 12 inches long and 5 inches tall at the head, this is a manageable and display‑friendly size for a 1/6‑scale figure. Although I no longer collect this scale personally, this Dilong remains compact enough to fit comfortably on most shelves while still commanding attention.

Final Thoughts
I’m extremely pleased to have this figure in my collection. Its vivid coloration may not appeal to every collector, but for those who appreciate unique palettes that remain grounded in ecological plausibility and evolutionary context, this Dilong offers a great deal to admire. As with all Creative Beast Studio releases—especially the more obscure species—production numbers were limited, and a reissue is unlikely. If a highly detailed, fully articulated, scientifically accurate Dilong paradoxus is missing from your theropod lineup, this is one to acquire while it’s still attainable.
