The Baby Safety Alliance has kicked off Baby Safety Month 2026 with its Before You Try, Verify campaign, encouraging parents to pause before trying popular parenting trends, verify information with trusted sources, and use baby products as intended.
The campaign discourages caregivers from blindly trusting viral parenting tips and products they see online. Instead, guardians are advised to check if the source uses the product as intended and to read the manufacturer’s instructions. Additionally, the organization encourages guardians to double-check advice with trusted experts or sources.
The Baby Safety Alliance recommends the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Caregivers are encouraged to ask their pediatrician or a child passenger safety technician. Guardians can check what products have been recalled at cpsc.gov/recalls and confirm safety standards at babysafetyseal.org.
“Parents are doing their best in an environment where information is often confused for facts,” says Michael Dwyer, President of the Baby Safety Alliance. “When families know what to look for and where to find trustworthy guidance, they can make safer decisions every day.”
Parenting tips and products caregivers see online may not be accurate. With many users posting daily, not all advice can be verified by experts. The alliance recommends three easy steps for assessing baby safety: Pause, Verify, and Use Safely. When caregivers consider the source, confirm the tip is from a trusted source, and follow instructions, they make safer decisions.
