Triceratops (‘Cartoon Series’ by Wing Crown / Gosnell)

Review and Photos by Hubert, edited by DinoToyBlog.

My overview of Wing Crown’s 7 inch ‘Cartoon Series’ continues with their Triceratops. This is definitely my least favourite in the set and I think the ‘cartoonification’ went a little too far.

The body shape is fairly accurate for the genus, maybe a bit too low above the shoulders, but it’s fine for the standard we’re dealing with. The titular three horns are looking sharp, I would even say that they are too hard and sharp for the target age range for a toy like this. Triceratops figures have been cancelled for stuff like this before (looking at you, blue trike from Jurassic Park: The Lost World Kenner line).

There are also some pronounced horizontal cheek horns, and the frill has three little spikes. Another added detail, again, is some big scales on the body, but this time they are arranged sparsely with large areas of smooth skin in between. Plus, there are three rows of smaller scales on the frill, and one long row that runs along the spine.

Where things get unsettling is on its face, which looks very human-like. The eyes are on the front of the head and face forward, and where the beak should be there is a fleshy, rounded mouth. The face seems very chubby too. It looks like it has some fat hanging under its chin, which just adds to the grotesqueness. There’s something uncanny about it!

The colors are dark pink for most of the body, and the underside is white, but it’s so close to the bottom it’s not visible from high angles. There are also some irregular splashes of purple on the body, the three horns are painted white, while the cheek horns are dark grey. The toenails once again are painted, and the beady eyes are yellow with Disney-style pupils.

There’s just one more figure to go in this series…
