The Pokémon Company International Shares Latest News for 30th Anniversary Celebration

After 30 years of catching them all, Pokémon trainers are ready to see what the future of the franchise will be, and what better day for The Pokémon Company International to share all things Pokémon than on Pokémon Day?

The presentation started with the reveal of a Game Boy-styled juke box, which comes with 45 music cartridges made to look like the original Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue cartridges. Each one has a song on it based on the location or part in the game (shown by the screen on one side). Just pop in the cartridge, flip the switch, and jam out to your favorite classic tunes from the very first time trainers made their way through Kanto in 1996. The set will be available to purchase at the Pokémon Center online store.

Next, Chris Brown, Director of Events and E-Sports for The Pokémon Company International, shared the key art for this year’s Pokémon World Championships and Pokémon XP events. Both events will take place in San Francisco later this year, so West Coast fans will have front-row seats to all the action. Trainers can register for the multi-day interest list from April 2-23 and register their attendee interest for single-day passes beginning early this summer. In the meantime, fans can check out the latest event updates at pokemonxp.com.

Mewtwo and Mew will be in the next TCG expansion, but more details will be on the way in the future. | Source: The Pokémon Company International

A new Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) expansion was teased, with more details being promised at a later date. The official art features Mew and Mewtwo, so trainers are going to want to keep an eye out for more information on the expansion.

Next, the attention shifted to titles already available, such as Pokémon GO (celebrating its 10-year anniversary), Pokémon Sleep, Pokémon Unite, Pokémon Café Remix, and Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Pokémon GO will have a two-day Kalos Tour beginning Feb. 28-March 1, where players can redeem the code “GOTOURKALOS” and choose which Kalos starter they encounter during a special Timed Research. There will also be a two-day anniversary event from March 7-9, where many Pokémon will return to the game’s overworld. Starting tonight, Pokémon Sleep players will be able to begin a series of missions to encounter Mew for the first time.

In Pokémon Unite, the Kanto region’s legendary birds — Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres — are making their grand debut. Pokémon Café Remix players can find a special roundup of all the Starter Pokémon, as well as 30th anniversary-themed in-game decorations, beginning Feb. 28, with the first roundup wave featuring the Kanto starters. Fans of Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness will be happy to find that they can now play the GameCube title exclusively on their Nintendo Switch 2, available to play via Nintendo Classics: Nintendo GameCube.

In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, players who have the Mega Dimensions DLC can claim a special Mystery Gift to encounter Mega Garchomp Z in a Hyper Space Distortion. After defeating the Pokémon, players can receive the Mega Stone needed to mega evolve their own Garchomp. For those battle-ready and waiting on Pokémon Champions, the game is set to be ready for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 systems this April, with the mobile version coming out later this year.

The presentation then shifted to Pokémon Pokopia, coming out March 5. In Pokémon Pokopia, players can cook delicious treats for their Pokémon with Chef Dente, collect CDs and share them with DJ Rotom, and visit each other’s islands for co-op and online play. With mining, building, and exploration at the forefront of this title, players will have plenty to do with their Pokémon friends.

Finally, to wrap up the presentation, a teaser video for the upcoming Generation 10 titles, Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, was shown. Trainers will be able to pick their fave starter Pokémon from the Grass-Type chick Browt, the Fire-Type puppy Pombon, and the Water-Type gecko Gecqua, and meet the special Pikachus, Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu, on their adventures. While the video shown was not final gameplay footage, the game appears to be set in a massive tropical region, with a variety of biomes for players to explore.
