In the spirit of Buzz Lightyear, Disney is taking Toy Story 5 to infinity and beyond the big screen. As the toys’ latest adventure arrives in theaters, the company is launching a series of global initiatives that bring the magic of the movies to kids and families in need.
“At Disney, we have so many incredible stories and characters that our guests around the world have a deep emotional connection to,” said Lisa Haines, Senior Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility, The Walt Disney Company. “Moments like the release of Toy Story 5 offer an opportunity to turn that connection into hope and joy for kids and their families when they need it most.”
Building on Disney’s long-standing relationship with the Starlight Children’s Foundation, the company will take Toy Story 5 to more than 400 children’s hospitals globally, including more than 300 locations in the U.S. Patients and their families will receive themed toy deliveries from the Disney Store, special Starlight hospital gowns featuring the characters, and the opportunity to watch the film while it’s still in theaters.
The initiative kicked off on the red carpet at the film’s Los Angeles premiere with the Star Command Message Transmission, an interactive installation where cast members and guests shared messages for young patients. Those messages were later incorporated into the hospital experiences, including at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., with a life-size Lilypad activation, character meet-and-greets, and even drawing sessions with real Pixar animators.
Internationally, the celebration continues with character visits to children’s hospitals across Europe and Asia. Woody, Buzz, and Jessie even stopped by the grand opening of the new Pixar-themed care space within Shenzhen Children’s Hospital in Mainland China.
Toy Story’s licensing partners — including Disney Store, Mattel, LeapFrog, and Clove — also took up the cause, donating toys, tech, and other products for kids and caregivers around the world.
