Baby Bumpy: Ankylosaurus (Jurassic World by LEGO)

“Happy International Dinosaur Day and Happy Pride Month, fellow dinosaur lovers!🦖🏳️‍🌈 I am the one and only Dr. Bella Bricking, along with the invaluable Beth Buildit, here once again to entertain and educate!”

“Yup. And exhaust ourselves in the process.”

“Today we shall be reviewing 76962 Baby Bumpy: Ankylosaurus, released in 2024 and containing 358 pieces. We previously reviewed Dolores the Aquilops, but this is the very first set in LEGO’s Baby Dinosaurs series. Bumpy is, of course, a prominent character in the Camp Cretaceous cartoon, and has appeared in toy form as both a juvenile and an adult. She has also previously appeared in a LEGO set, albeit as a small figure.”

“Say now, I like that shade of teal, Doc! Guess we should get cracking. Again!”

“Well, that wasn’t too difficult, now was it, my dear Beth? What say you?”

“Aww, look at her, Doc! Ain’t she a pointy cutie! Check out the size of that noggin!”

“Yes, her proportions have always appeared to be more than a little off, but in an endearing way. Now, Bumpy measures about 21.5 cm long, making her comparable in size to Dolores. As you yourself noted earlier, she is coloured a most attractive teal, along with beige and tan. There are also a number of dark grey components, some blacks, some medium browns, and a few other colours which cannot seen once the set is fully assembled. Bumpy’s eyes are dark brown and her mouth features pink and red parts.”

“She’s not as poseable as Dolores, though, Doc. Her mouth opens, her neck and tail are hinged, her club swings freely, and her legs all have universal joints, but because she’s a cartoony baby ankylosaur, she can’t do many poses. But it’s cool how, when you move her head from side to side, her tail swings in the opposite directions!”

“That is most amusing indeed, Beth. As we mentioned earlier, Bumpy’s head is enormous, with lots of sloping bricks to give it a realistic appearance. Her large eyes are rather expressive and–“

“Wait a sec, Doc! I think we left out a piece on one of the horns! I didn’t see another one of those around anywhere . . . “

“No need for concern, my dear Beth, it is supposed to be that way. Bumpy’s horns are intended to be asymmetrical in order to match her animation model. Moving along, her domed back is covered in many wedge pieces to represent scutes. Her legs are short and thick, and her tail features only a single scute as well as the large rounded club at the end.”

“Not a lot of places for us to stand or sit on there then, Doc. The only available studs are on top of the club, and I ain’t riding on that!”

“Nor am I, Beth. Now, as an intentionally cartoonish character, Bumpy probably should not be taken to task for issues of anatomical accuracy. Moreover, no juvenile specimens of Ankylosaurus have been described at this time, so we have no sample of comparison.”

“Yeah, but she definitely looks a lot like her character, Doc, especially with those colours. And hey, she’s actually more accurate than any adult Jurassic World Ankylosaurus, what with not having spikes along her sides! Bottom line: pretty anybody can tell what kind of dino she’s supposed to be.”

“Well put, Beth. Bumpy’s accessories consist of a rather scrumptious array of greens. There are two different flowering plants, a carrot, and a pumpkin for her to dine on.”

“Nice, except that carrot and pumpkin are way too small compared to Bumpy. Ah well. I’m sure she doesn’t care.”

“And that about covers things for this set, fellow dinosaur lovers. What are you final musings, Beth?”

“Well, Bumpy’s maybe not as fun to fiddle with as Dolores, but she’s still pretty swell and totally just as cute. Kid and adult LEGO buffs should like the swinging head and tail combo, the cool teal bricks, and the strong resemblance to the cartoon.”

“A succinct and sharp assessment, my dear. This set is currently still widely available online and in physical stores which stock LEGO. And so it is that our work here is done once again. Ta ta, we shall see all of you again come December!”

“Seeya then, folks! Eat it up, Bumps!”
