BUILD, LISTEN, AND LEARN THE SCIENCE OF SOUND
- Kids assemble their own stereo headphones
- Learn how electricity turns into sound
- Combines hands-on building with play
WHAT IT IS
The KiwiCo Stereo Headphones kit is a hands-on STEM project that encourages kids ages 8 and up to build a working pair of headphones. Kids construct the headband, connect the speaker drivers, and assemble the components needed to create real stereo sound. Along the way, the kit introduces the science behind how speakers convert electrical signals into audio, as well as the history of modern headsets. Once complete, kids can plug in and use their headphones to listen to music.
WHY WE LOVE IT
This kit blends building and real-world function, giving kids something they can both create and use. The step-by-step assembly, accompanied by an illustrated instruction booklet, makes engineering concepts approachable, while the finished headphones offer a satisfying payoff. It’s also a great introduction to sound science, helping kids understand how everyday tech works in a tangible way.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW
Assembly is required, so younger kids may need some assistance to complete the build.
