Trump Fires Back with 10% Global Tariff Following Supreme Court Ruling

While the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) ruled President Donald J. Trump’s sweeping IEEPA tariffs unlawful, a fresh fight in the trade war has begun.

Earlier today, the President issued a new Proclamation imposing a 10% tariff on all U.S. imports, effective at 12:01 a.m. on February 24, 2026, and remaining in effect for 150 days. Under the new Proclamation, USMCA-compliant goods from Canada and Mexico are exempt.

In a fiery press conference this afternoon, President Trump took aim at the Supreme Court Justices who ruled against his actions, calling the decision “disappointing,” while calling the plaintiffs in the case “sleazebags.” Those plaintiffs include the family-owned companies Learning Resources and hand2mind, among others.

“As family-owned, mission-driven education companies, we brought this lawsuit to protect our 500+ employees and the schools and families who rely on us,” said Learning Resources in a statement. “We remain committed to our mission: We Bring Learning to Life. With today’s decision, we will continue to pursue our mission through innovation, investment, and hard work, supporting educators, families, and children around the world, without the burden of unlawful tariffs.”

In compliance with today’s SCOTUS ruling, The White House issued an End to Certain Tariff Actions, while confirming that Section 232 (national-security) and Section 301 (trade enforcement) tariffs remain in place.

Following the news, The Toy Association issued a statement on the latest developments, calling for refunds of tariffs paid over the past year.

In light of the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision overturning IEEPA tariffs, and the Proclamation imposing a 10% tariff on all goods under Section 122 of the Trade Act, The Toy Association encourages the Administration to provide continued relief to the toy industry and exclude toys from future additional tariffs. While the SCOTUS decision was silent on refunds, we urge the lower court to act quickly to provide relief to enable member companies, particularly small businesses, to invest in their workforce, drive innovation, and ensure toys remain affordable and accessible to children and families. Toys play a critical role in healthy and happy childhood development, and The Toy Association will continue to advocate to keep toys tariff-free.
