Nintendo is taking Mario to new heights at the 99th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. To celebrate 40 years of Super Mario Bros., the Mario character will appear as a cartoon balloon.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game. Since launching in 1985, its video gamefranchise has expanded with popular titles such as Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and Super Mario Party Jamboree. Outside of gaming, Mario is also returning to the big screen with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, premiering April 3, 2026.
This November, viewers will see Mario reach new heights as he soars over the streets of Manhattan. Created by Macy’s Parade Studio team, the balloon measures 51-feet and 2-inches long, 37-feet wide, and 43-feet and 8-inches tall. The popular Nintendo character will feature his signature blue overalls, red cape, and striking pose inspired by Super Mario Galaxy.
Consumers can see Mario float by in New York City or watch the parade live on NBC. The 99th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will also be available for streaming on Peacock from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. in all time zones.
